why do we sleep

“‘Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” – Thomas Dekker

“‘Sleep is a criminal waste of time and a heritage from our cave days.” – Thomas Edison

“‘Money never sleeps.'” – Gordon Gekko

Reflection

Of the three quotes above, the third has become the most synonymous with American culture today. However, I truly believe that it should be the first. People often focus on the biological benefits of sleep, but what’s great about Foster is that he also discusses what it’s like to live the reality of more (or less!) sleep. For a lot of people, the thought of getting cancer or mental illnesses is too far-off, so they disregard the importance of sleep. But Fosters says it best: “If you have good sleep, it increases your concentration, attention, decision-making, creativity, social skills, health.”
