Family is unbelievably important to giving me a support system. In fact, they come first in my life. This first year has been rocky for me, but because of my family, I know that I have people who are willing to support and protect me no matter the cost. Unfortunately, I also realize that there are moments when I fight with them. One of the major reasons I came to Georgetown was because it was an opportunity to explore something new, even though my parents wanted me to stay in Chicago. Being away, however, has been somewhat for the better. I’ve learned to appreciate them more and it actually helped me realize that I do want to stay closer to them. Without family, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They’re the ones who were there for me when I needed them the most, like when my dad helped me get out of the inpatient psychiatric unit within 24 hours while my mom flew down to DC to support me in-person. Family is an example of a relationship, and relationships are what helps us flourish. I know that now more than I ever have before!
